Infant Cradle Cap – Cause of Cradle Cap
Cradle cap is an oily, yellow scaling or crusting on a babyвЂ™s scalp caused by a buildup of normal oils on the skin. Cradle cap generally affects the scalp, head, eyebrows, and areas behind the ears. Although cradle cap can be unsightly and distressing to look at, it is a normal, harmless and non contagious scalp condition.
Baby Cradle Cap Treatment
As long as it doesn’t bother your baby, cradle cap doesn’t need to be treated. In most babies, the condition is gone well before they are one year old. However, cradle cap sometimes does itches.
If cradle cap bother your baby and until your baby outgrows the conditions, there are things you can do to ease your baby’s discomfort.
To remove the build up of scales more easily, rubbed a small amount of mineral oil or baby oil onto the affected areas to help soften the scales. Wait several minutes to loosen the scales before shampooing.
